In the Engineering and Risk Themes of the DEFRA / EA Flood Defence R&D Programme (www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subjects/flood/1217883/1218166/1218189/211195/), multiple projects are underway that establish an improved understanding of performance, in particular linking asset condition to performance, and management intervention to performance improvement.  Individually these developments and tools provide the main components of the performance-based asset management system.
